History

Our Journey Forward

Highfields Farm has a rich history rooted in family values and pride in how we farm.

The farm was bought by one of the current director's great-grandfather, Noel George Maughan, in 1930. He worked it for many years before handing it down to his son, Rowland.

Rowland and Margaret created the Rowmar Herd in 1969 with 130 cows. In 1995, their daughter Tanya and son-in-law Alan formed AA Winstanley and Partners and continued to grow the herd. One milestone was the construction of a new 50-point rotary parlour in 2009.

Today, Alan and Tanya's son Harvey is an integral part of the farm, working alongside his dad Alan and grandfather Rowland. Recent innovations include a robotic teat preparation system in the parlour and an award-winning maternity unit completed in 2024.

Through hard work and commitment to dairy farming, the farm has grown across four generations, but at our core we remain a family business.

Awards and Recognition

Awards

In 2004 we won 'Supreme Farm Champion' in the Cheshire County Farms Competition - recognition of our commitment to excellence.

Twenty years later, we've come full circle. In 2024, we won the prestigious Duke of Westminster Cup for the Best Large Farm, and we were also the overall winners in the technology and innovation category.

Show success

Occasionally showing our cows and youngstock allows us to demonstrate the pride we have in our herd. Over the years we have won various rosettes at shows including Nantwich Show and Western Holstein Club events - something that was particularly close to Tanya's heart.

Production

The quality of our milk has been recognised by our processor, Müller Milk and Ingredients, achieving top band for cell counts and bactoscan consistently since 1999. Over the years, individual cows from our herd have been recognised for their exceptional production performance in both yield and milk quality.

Innovation

We love innovation at Highfields Farm. Especially if it makes life easier for people who work here, or better for the cows. From automatic feeders, to state-of-the-art cow brushes, to robotics in the parlour, to camera systems, to cow wearables...we have made many investments in technology.

Our state-of-the-art maternity facilities have been recognised nationally, winning the Cheshire County Farms Competition Technology and Innovation Award in 2024. We regularly host visits from farmers, vets and dairy professionals from across the UK and internationally.

Community

Highfields Farm has many community connections

We are part of Audlem village and committed to being good neighbours. We support local causes where we can, including the Audlem Christmas tree fund, and we've welcomed community groups such as Audlem Beavers to visit the farm.

We also open our doors to farming and educational groups. We have hosted Open Farm Sunday, welcoming the public to see how we farm, and received visits from Women in Agriculture, Young Farmers, Holstein Breeders Clubs, Red Rose Discussion Group, and many others.

Supporting causes close to our hearts is important to us. We are proud supporters of The Christie charity in memory of Tanya, and have raised funds through charity dinners and auctions in recent years.

Career opportunities

Cows, calves, machinery, technology, data - a career in dairy farming has it all!

We are always interested in hearing from skilled and motivated people who want to join our team. Whether you're experienced in dairy farming or eager to learn, if you share our commitment to excellence and animal welfare, get in touch.
